Sahar received a BFA in Fine Art and an MFA in Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Memories and time play an important role in her art practice. Many of her paintings were created over long periods. Sahar’s works are defined by a respect for the “moment in time” in which they are created. Visual, tactile, and found objects allow viewers to mine their own experiences, providing an opportunity for quiet reflection amid the uncertainty of the surrounding world. The process of creation is undone and remade through scraping, sanding, and painting over, much like memories that have been reformed, polished, and retold from the distance of time.

Her works reflect how we live our lives, constantly pulling inspiration from the world around us to either validate or inform existing stories, or to create new ones. While her work evolves from personal references, experiences, and memories unknown to the viewer, it is her hope that this work will catalyze for individuals to wander through their own mysteries of uncertainty and contemplation.

The layered and reworked surfaces of the paintings convey a record of experience and emotion—expressing the time-honored process of self-exploration and all that it reveals. Hidden forms, apertures, and textured surfaces suggest geography—a key to exploring our life experiences and how we have been shaped and molded by them. These surfaces reveal a mystery: reflecting what has been discovered, what has been lost, and what history is yet to be written.
